Every Plate Full Campaign Seeks Food Donations

vegetablesThe Salvation Army is entering the home stretch of a nation-wide food drive.

Captain Stephanie Watkinson says it’s crunch time for the Every Plate Full campaign.

“We haven’t got a lot of donations in. People have dropped off a little here and there, but our shelves are barely being able to keep stocked for the current need”, says Watkinson.

She says the summer months tend to be a busy time for area food banks with lower donations and a greater need as families in need don’t have school breakfast and snack programs for their kids to rely on.

“Spring and summer times are very slow for donations, but very busy for need. People tend to be planning their summer, going on vacations, that kind of thing, and they don’t think of the food bank or their neighbours who are hungry”, explains Watkinson.

Watkinson says the food banks in Wallaceburg, Chatham, and Ridgetown accept fresh fruits and vegetables as well as non-perishable donations.

The Every Plate Full campaign wraps up on Friday.
