One of Chatham-Kent’s most notorious rural intersections is slated to become a roundabout.
The Queens Line and Merlin Road intersection, located on Highway #2 between Chatham and Tilbury, has traffic engineers concerned, due to its hazards and poor sightlines.
Chatham-Kent council approved turning the intersection into a roundabout a year ago.
At Monday’s council meeting, council will look to approve allowing administration to go ahead to expropriate land to move the roundabout project forward.
Chatham-Kent’s legal team has tried to negotiate with neighbouring landowners for the past seven months to purchase land needed for the roundabout, but the owners have not accepted any of the offers made by Chatham-Kent.
In a report to council, administration said they are still working to negotiate a willing sale of this land, but due to the need for work to proceed, administration also recommends initiating the expropriation process in case a negotiated settlement cannot be reached.
