An investigation is ongoing following a motorcycle collision that claimed the life of a Charing Cross man.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said a motorcyclist was travelling on Talbot Trail between Bloomfield Road and Craford Road on Saturday shortly after 2:30 p.m., when the motorcycle struck a piece of furniture that had fallen off another vehicle. The driver lost control of the motorcycle and drove into a ditch before crashing into a tree.

The motorcyclist, a 78-year-old Charing Cross man, suffered serious injuries and was rushed to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead in hospital.

Authorities said a 67-year-old Blenheim woman has been identified as the driver of the vehicle that was transporting the furniture.

The CK police Traffic Management Unit is continuing to investigate the collision, and anyone with information is asked to contact Cst. Brandon McKeen at brandonmc@chatham-kent.ca, or 519-355-1092.
