UPDATE: One Dead Following Single-Vehicle Crash On Hwy. 40

One person has died following a single-vehicle crash that forced the closure of Highway 40 between Chatham and Wallaceburg.

The Ontario Provincial Police officers, firefighters and EMS responded to the collision on the highway south of Countryview Line, at around 11:15 a.m. Wednesday morning.

The lone occupant of the vehicle, a 77-year-old from Chatham, was rushed to hospital and later pronounced dead.

An investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing.

Police closed Highway 40 between Countryview Line and Claymore Line for several hours while emergency crews were at the scene. The road was reopened shortly before 5:30 p.m.
