As the court case over the fate of 21 pit-bull type dogs continues to be waged in a Chatham courtroom, the Ontario SPCA is working to rehabilitate 18 others.

Deputy Chief Inspector Jennifer Bluhm says almost half of the animals being held in connection to the fighting ring last fall are on the road to finding a forever home.

“Seven that came in as adults were identified to have good characteristics for rehabilitation and those dogs have been on a plan,” says Bluhm. “The puppies that were born in our care their rehabilitation is different, it’s about socialization and we started that very early on to give them the best possible chance.”

Bluhm the dogs are considered evidence as part of the continuing court case, and will not be allowed to be adopted until the case has finished.
