Feds Expand Access To Online Passport Renewal

The federal government is making it easier for Canadians to renew their passports.

The Ministry of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship announced on Tuesday that the government is removing the limit on the number of people who can renew their passports online to provide Canadians with a convenient and secure option.

A passport renewal application can be completed online by submitting the application, photo and payment digitally, instead of mailing documents or visiting a Service Canada Centre.

Federal officials said this will benefit Canadians who face barriers to in-person service, such as those living in rural or remote communities and those with mobility challenges.

The status of the application can also be checked online, and the government will continue to honour its passport service guarantee that applications will be processed within 30 business days or the passport is free.

In-person and mail-in services will continue to be available.
