Nearly 300 impaired driving charges have been laid as part of an annual police enforcement and education initiative.
The Ontario Provincial Police conducted 1,938 RIDE checkpoints across the West Region between November 21, 2024 and January 1, 2025, as part of this year’s Festive RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign.
In that time, a total of 292 impaired driving charges were laid and 19 warn-range suspensions were issued. Of those impaired driving charges, 13 were laid in Chatham-Kent and Elgin County.
Last year, 353 impaired driving charges were laid and 55 warn-range suspensions were issued following 2,446 RIDE checks.
The Festive RIDE campaign is an annual initiative aimed at taking impaired drivers off Ontario roads during the holiday season.
