Railways, provincial downloading, and more are all on the agenda for the final council meeting of 2019. 
Owned by the municipality since 2006, Chatham-Kent might have a buyer lined up for its railway that runs from Chatham to Wallaceburg.
The buyer—a numbered company—is offering Chatham-Kent $5.2 million for the rail property and assets. They have asked Chatham-Kent for confidentiality regarding the transaction due to commercial reasons.
Chatham-Kent bought the railway in 2006 for $4 million in an effort to possibly spur economic development in the region.
Municipal officials will decide tonight whether to commit to spending $65,000 for architectural design and consulting services for a twin-pad entertainment centre and multi-sport complex.
Although the province and federal governments haven’t yet approved funding for the project—it’s expected to come in early 2020, the municipality wants to start designing the complex because one of the criteria on which projects are being evaluated by the higher levels of government is project readiness.
Council will also look to approve a bylaw regarding winter sidewalk and highway maintenance, and discuss the impact of provincial downloading on upcoming municipal budget talks.
