The issue of dirty sediment in area water wells was front and centre again last night as North Kent Wind held its final Community Liaison Meeting with the public.
About two dozen people attended the gathering at Country View golf course with emotions running high at times.
Joshua Vaidhyan is the project manager for Samsung.
“We field a lot of questions the community has, I think personally the best instance of it being effective is our one-on-one,” Vaidhyan says. “When we have the panel it sometimes can get out of hand, but I think we get the message across, sometimes it falls on deaf ears but we have to try our best.”
Water Wells First’s Kevin Jakubec was among those in attendance, he says the rest of the wind industry is keenly watching what’s going on in our area.
“I think the wind industry is very concerned about what’s happening in north Chatham-Kent,” Jakubec says. “For too long, the industry has operated with very shoddy regulations, there’s no groundwater vulnerability study required in the REA permits that the Ministry of Environment under the Liberal Government had in place. That’s ludicrous.”
The company says there is no evidence that its work has caused any of the sediment issues in the catchment area. It says there have been no new complaints since its last liaison meeting in May.
However, most in attendance did not accept that contention, and say many who have problems have given up reporting them because nothing is done.
