With any luck, drivers in Wallaceburg could be able to pass over the Base Line Bridge by the end of the day.
Municipal officials say the contractor is doing the final checks, which involves moving 50 pound steel plates around to the various areas below the bridge and then taking the jacks off to ensure the span is properly balanced.
The work is expected to take the better part of the day, and all things being equal, the bridge should be able to reopen.
An update is expected this afternoon.
