Fine Laid for Outdated Smoke Detectors

A Chatham landlord is facing fines in connection to a kitchen fire.

Fire fighters were called to a home on Park Avenue yesterday afternoon, where a grease fire had broken out in the kitchen.

The flames were quickly doused, but say the home’s smoke alarms were expired and the landlord was given a $360 fine.

Since March, 2006, the law in Ontario requires all homes to have a working smoke alarm on every floor and outside all sleeping areas.
