Hundreds of Chatham-Kent residents can sleep a little more soundly following a special safety campaign by Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue.

Crews spent last Thursday going door-to-door across Chatham-Kent, offering to check residents’ smoke and CO detectors.

In all, 753 homes were visited, making it the largest one-day fire safety canvasing event in the history of the department.

“Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms were provided but most importantly our communities met with their firefighters and were able to talk about the safety of their homes and their families,” explains Fire Chief Chris Case. “Every member of our service has the safety of their community as their first priority.  I’m delighted that so many homes had a firefighter entering holding a smoke alarm rather than a hose line.”
