First Council Meeting of 2021

Chatham-Kent council will get together for their first meeting in over a month tonight.
Among the things on the agenda includes making the outdoor patio bylaw permanent.

A temporary by-law was brought in by Chatham-Kent last year, which allowed local restaurants to construct patios on municipal right-of-ways to boost business during the global pandemic.

The municipality’s capital budget will be introduced tonight as well.

The capital budget prioritizes projects, which is set at just over $6.3 million and will be discussed at upcoming budget deliberations.

Projects that are on the capital budget list for 2021 include various road and path projects, construction of a new salt shed, traffic calming pilot projects across the municipality and storm water and shoreline erosion upgrades.

For 2020, the total capital budget was $13.1 million which included a one-time federal gas
tax increase and support for the Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Funded (DMAF)
projects.

Also on  the agenda are a number of planning items, a report on Chatham-Kent transit pilot projects and a motion for council to take a look at reducing ice rates to help out user groups.
