Flood Watch For Lake Erie Shoreline

Waves pounding against the Lake Erie Shoreline. August, 2019.

A weather system moving into the region later today could cause more flooding and erosion along the Lake Erie Shoreline.

The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority has issued a flood watch with high winds expected to continue through most of the day into the evening, bringing a risk of further erosion, flooding, and damage to the shore areas, including the high bluff.

The winds are expected to shift to the northwest later this afternoon and into the evening, moving the risk of damage to the Lake St Clair shoreline.

There is some uncertainty in how strong the winds may still be once they switch to the northwest or how long they may stay strong.

Due to high lake levels, the upper end of the predicted wind speeds present some risk of erosion, damage to shoreline protection works, and flooding along the Lake St. Clair shoreline.
