The river peaked in Chatham yesterday, 11 feet above normal, however Conservation Authority officials say water levels are expected to remain fairly high for the next few days.

The diversion channel in Chatham remains closed as floodwater have backed up into McGregor Creek.

Areas downstream of Chatham are not expected to be impacted by flooding, other than Lighthouse Cove.

Meantime, the St Clair Region Conservation Authority’s flood warning remains in effect although water levels are slowly on their way down along the Sydenham River and its tributaries.

River banks remain quite slippery with some minor erosion possible, and officials remind residents to steer clear of area waterways for their own safety.
