Floods Causing Electrical Concerns

Entegrus is encouraging safety when it comes to floods and power lines.

With the risk of flooding increasing over the past few days, Entegrus says to watch out for downed powerlines in flood-affected areas and if you see one, stay back 10 metres (the length of a school bus), and call 9-1-1, and Entegrus to report it.

The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority says houses and businesses backing onto rivers and watercourses are at an increased risk of basement flooding this week. Entegrus encourages homeowners not to enter basements if you suspect water has risen above the level of electrical outlets, baseboard heaters, or is near your electrical panel.

They say that electricity can more through the water or wet floors, and cause a severe electrical shock.
