Chatham-Kent will soon be home to a new family-oriented indoor amusement park that will be one of the largest of its kind in Canada.

The Flying Squirrel, an indoor trampoline, sports, and entertainment complex, will open a new location in the former YA Canada building at 730 Richmond St. in Chatham.

The 42,000-square-foot building will feature an indoor trampoline facility, rock wall, zip lines, an arcade, and a restaurant. The company will also partner with the Children’s Treatment Centre of Chatham-Kent to provide a first-of-its-kind sensory room.

“With Chatham-Kent’s growth on such a steep incline, there has been a distinct need for more family-orientated activities in our community. This investment by Flying Squirrel and Tatro Group is truly an exciting development for the future of CK” said Chatham-Kent Mayor Darrin Canniff in a news release. “This will be an inclusive place where kids, families and caregivers from all over Ontario and beyond can make lasting memories in Chatham-Kent.”

Owner Don Tetrault said the Richmond Street facility will provide state-of-the-art technology and games.

“I am excited to see the joy this facility will bring to the children, teenagers, young adults & caregivers of our community,” he said.

The indoor amusement park will employ between 35-40 people of all ages and experience levels with the Flying Squirrel slated to open in September of this year. Construction is currently underway.

The new facility in Chatham will join other Flying Squirrel locations operating in Calgary, Hamilton, London, Ottawa, Victoria, Winnipeg and Whitby.
