Food Freedom Day

Today is Food Freedom Day.

Today’s the day when the average Canadian has earned enough to feed themselves for a year.

To mark the day, the KFA is donating one tonne of pork to local food banks.

“We are kind of the central figure of this,” President Louis Roesch says.” This is donated by many agriculture businesses, they support the funding of it and that’s how it takes place.

They’ll make the first donation at 10am at the Salvation Army in Chatham, with more dropped off at the Salvation Army and Outreach for Hunger throughout the year.

“We take 3-400 pounds at a time,” Roesch explains. “You have to have storage, you need ot keep it fresh, and people run out of food all year long, not just at one period.”
