Food Guide Help Available

Canada’s food guide is no longer a rainbow or a pyramid, and some residents are finding the new guide hard to follow.

Jennelle Arnew is a Public Health Nutritionist, and she says some residents are facing financial and time barriers when trying to follow the new guide:

Time and financial are two of the biggest barriers to healthy eating.  One of the new features with the guide not only focuses on what people eat but recommends eating behaviours like cooking more often and eating together,” says Arnew. “Being mindful of your eating habits and enjoying the food you’re cooking and eating and we often find people struggle on how to put these recommendations into practice.”

The new food guide puts an emphasis on fruit, vegetables, and whole grains, with a recommendation to consume less meat and dairy and more meat alternatives.
