Forest Fire Smoke Causing Air Quality Issues in Southwestern Ontario

It’s shaping up to be another tough day for those with respiratory issues.

Environment Canada issued a special air quality statement last night, saying smoke plumes from forest fires in Quebec and Northeastern Ontario have resulted in deteriorating air quality, expected to last through most of the week.

Those with lung disease (such as asthma) or heart disease, older adults, children, pregnant people, and people who work outdoors are at higher risk of health issues caused by the smoke.

Affected residents are urged to stay indoors if they experience shortness of breath, wheezing, severe cough, dizziness, or chest pains.
