Freedom Convoy Leader To Visit CK Ahead Of Trial

Freedom Convoy organizer Tamara Lich is set to make a stop in Chatham-Kent, just over a month before she will stand trial for her role in last year’s protest-turned-occupation in Canada’s capital.

Lich will hold an event at the Old Czech Hall in Dresden on August 2, to sign and promote her book regarding the events in Ottawa, which saw hundreds of truck drivers converge on Parliament Hill.

Joined by thousands of protestors, the Freedom Convoy occupied the streets in Ottawa for more than a month between January and February 2022, to protest COVID-19 restrictions and the Liberal government. A large joint police operation removed parked vehicles and dismantled blockades at the end of the month after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau invoked the Emergencies Act.

After being arrested in the final days of the protest on February 17, 2022, Lich was charged with several offences including mischief, obstructing police, counselling others to commit mischief and intimidation.

According to her lawyer, Lawrence Greenspon, Lich’s current bail conditions restrict her from returning to Parliament Hill. She is also banned from communicating with key convoy organizers and must refrain from using social media.

Lich’s trial is scheduled for September 5, 2023, and it is expected to last 16 days.
