Freedom Walk 2026 Coming to North Buxton

A special journey paying tribute to former and escaping slaves will be making its way to North Buxton next week.

Historian Tony Cohen is retracing the steps of freedom seekers travelling along a 1200 km stretch of the Underground Railroad on their way to Canada.

His Freedom Walk 2026 will stop at the Buxton National Historic Site and Museum on Wednesday, July 8.

The public is invited for an afternoon of music, storytelling, and history, alongside a nine-foot Harriet Tubman traveling sculpture. Guests are also invited to take a guided tour of the museum and learn about the history of the Elgin Settlement and its legacy.

Organizers say the event honours the courage and resilience of those who sought freedom in Canada.

The celebration runs from 1-3pm. Admission is free of charge, however donations will be accepted in support of the museum.
