Money continues to pour in following this weekend’s 7th annual Polar Plunge for Special Olympics in Chatham.

Organizer Jason Herder says more than 200 people took part in Saturday’s plunge at the Sons of Kent Brewing Company, raising more than $70,000.

“This is a special event for us as Chatham-Kent has been selected as the host city for the Special Olympics School Championship Games, a return to Special Olympics programming for the first time in Chatham-Kent in 27 years,” Herder says. “100% of the proceeds raised in this Polar Plunge went directly back to the fundraising efforts that our team has been working tirelessly on.”

Herder says $373,000 of the Games’ $400,000 budget has been raised in just eight months.

“It shows the tenancy of Chatham-Kent and how we all wrap ourselves and band together to work together towards a common goal.”
