Freezing Rain Wrecking Havoc On Area Roads

It’s a treacherous morning on the roads around Chatham-Kent with freezing rain and blowing snow.

All schools within the Lambton Kent District School Board and St Clair Catholic District School Board are closed today because of the road conditions.

St Clair College has cancelled all morning classes at both the Chatham and Windsor campuses.

Walpole Island Elementary, Wallaceburg Christian, and Chatham Christian Schools are closed for the day.

Environment Canada meteorologist Gerald Cheng says things will get better as the morning goes on.

“The tail end may be around 9, that’s when you get the temperatures to rise above zero,” Cheng says. “The saving grace is that the rain is going to hopefully melt everything, so it won’t be as slick around noon.”

Chatham-Kent EMS officials are urging residents to plan ahead this morning and avoid any unnecessary travel.

Garbage and recycling pickups have been cancelled today, and collections for the remainder of the week will be delayed by one day.
