A meeting is being held later this month to introduce families to a new public French-language school opening in Chatham.

Conseil scolaire Viamonde, which has facilities in communities across southern and central Ontario, recently purchased the former Georges P. Vanier building on Cecile Avenue from the St. Clair Catholic District School Board for $1.6 million.

The non-secular Viamonde French-language board plans to open its first local elementary school at the site in September, 2027 with an estimated 215 students in classes from kindergarten to grade 8.

An information meeting is being held at 6pm on Monday, November 16th at La Girouette Community Centre, 150 King Street West in downtown Chatham.
