Funding Cuts Hit CKPL Branches

A 50% cut to the Southern Ontario Library Service by the Doug Ford government means the Chatham-Kent Library will have to end its inter-library loan service.

That service allows people to borrow books and other materials from other libraries, universities, and the Archives of Ontario, as well as increase library staff knowledge and training.

According to Chatham-Kent Library CEO Tania Sharpe, the cuts will greatly affect local history and family history researchers, as well as distance education students.

“Many people also took advantage of this service to access books and materials that are out of print and not readily available,” Sharpe says. “It saddens me that a service that allowed libraries to share their resources across all of Ontario in a cost effective way has been cancelled.”

If you currently have some of that material, you’re asked to return it immediately.
