Funding Cuts On Hold…For Now

Municipal leaders are breathing a small sigh of relief when it comes to provincial funding.

The Ontario government announced yesterday it has reversed planned cuts to things like public health, land ambulance service, and child care funding, at least for this year.

Mayor Darrin Canniff says the cuts would have hit Chatham-Kent hard since this year’s budget had already been set.

Premier Doug Ford says he’s still putting the onus on municipalities to find efficiencies.  Chatham-Kent has been given a one-time grant of $725,000 to make strategic investments to improve service delivery.

Administration says there are still a lot of unknowns, and the next few years will be hard when it comes to balancing the budget.
