Funding Supports Agriculture Research

Newly announced funding aims to support local farmers and maintain agricultural research infrastructure.

$41 million will be invested in Agricultural Research and Innovation Ontario over the next four years to give farmers access to innovative solutions that help provide safe and healthy food while keeping the agri-food sector competitive in the global market.

As part of the funding, $10.5 million is being given to the new Ontario Poultry Research Centre at the Elora Research Station. The facility will support Ontario’s 1,200 chicken and turkey producers and 432 egg farmers by boosting research on animal welfare, reproduction, and meat quality and safety.

A portion of the funds has also been earmarked for the University of Guelph, Ridgetown Campus for repairs and upgrades to the Dairy Education Centre, ensuring the continuation of cutting-edge research and innovation.

“Through investments in research and innovation, we are ensuring farmers and business owners have the best solutions to remain competitive against tariffs and ensure families can continue to buy high-quality, Ontario-made food with pride,” said Trevor Jones, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness in a news release.
