The helipad at Sarnia’s hospital has now been entirely funded through the generosity of Lambton County and the local community.
The Bluewater Health Foundation announced this week that it has reached its fundraising goal of $912,000 for Bluewater Health’s helipad.
The majority of the funds were raised through community donations, including a 100,000 contribution from Charlotte Eleanor Englehart Hospital Foundation. Lambton County Council also approved $400,000 in funding for the helipad in 2022.
“It was important that the County of Lambton support Bluewater Health’s helipad,” said Lambton County Warden Kevin Marriott in a news release. “We know how valuable this resource has been and will continue to be in our community. The helipad means faster access to life-saving care when it’s needed most and will greatly benefit Lambton residents.”
The helipad has since been certified by Transport Canada and has already been used on numerous occasions to transport patients requiring specialized urgent care in other parts of the region.
