Gale Warning Could Spell Trouble for Lake Erie Shoreline

Today’s wet and windy weather has prompted a warning from the LTVCA.

The Conservation Authority has issued a flood watch for communities along the shores of Lake Erie and Rondeau Bay with the potential for flooding, erosion, and shoreline damage. That includes areas such as Shrewsbury, Erieau, and Wheatley.

A gale warning has been issued by Environment Canada, with winds topping 65 kilometres an hour into tomorrow morning, and some forecasts suggest strong winds could continue into Saturday evening.

People should take extra caution and avoid the shoreline should conditions get rough. The waves can be strong and the shoreline slippery. There could also be hazardous debris within the waves and water which could be thrown onto the shoreline. Standing water can also present unseen hazards. Children and pets should be kept away from the water.
