Gardening As A Show of Community Spirit

Municipal officials are encouraging local residents to add some colour to their homes and businesses.

As part of an initiate called “Love My Hood” to spark collaboration and community spirit, property owners are asked to showcase the colour orange, which was chosen for the nation-wide Communities in Bloom campaign and the Canadian Garden Council. Officials say the colour symbolizes growth, optimism, and the promise of a brighter tomorrow.

Residents, businesses, and community groups are encouraged to incorporate orange into their gardening and planting initiatives throughout 2024, whether with orange blooms, foliage, or decorative elements. Those planting bulbs this fall can consider adding orange varieties to their gardens, which will blossom into a sea of orange next spring.

“It’s heartwarming to witness our local committees come together with a shared vision,” Mayor Darrin Canniff said in a news release. “Let’s embrace this vibrant colour and watch it flourish in every corner of our community.”
