Some tense moments for residents in Chatham’s east end Monday afternoon. 
A number of homes and businesses around the Park Avenue East area, near the site of the new animal shelter, had to be evacuated yesterday after a natural gas leak.
Police and Fire services were called to the area near Hyslop Street around 1:30.
Although residents in the area were allowed back a few hours later, although officials couldn’t confirm when natural gas service would be restored.
There’s still no word on exactly what sparked the leak in the first place.
