Gearing Up For Winter Driving

It should be easier than ever to plan a safe commute on Ontario roads this winter.

Ontario 511 Track My Plow

Minister of Transportation Jeff Yurek announced on Friday that the Ontario 5-1-1 website has taken over an online snow plow tracker.

Track My Plow allows you to see where snow plows are in real time on provincial highways.

A similar project, the Chatham-Kent Plow Tracker, was launched for municipally-maintained roads in Chatham-Kent last winter.

With more than 1,100 pieces of winter maintenance equipment on provincial highways to help fight winter storms, drivers are reminded to give working snowplows plenty of room.

“Remember to slow down and drive according to weather and road conditions. Please be patient, stay well back and never pass a working snowplow,” said Yurek.

According to the province, this is one of several ways Ontario drivers can be safe on the roads this winter.

The Ontario 511 website is also expected to be linked up with Waze app this winter to share publicly reported incidents, traffic jams and weather hazards.
