Good Samaritan Reports Impaired Driver On 401

Police are crediting a Good Samaritan for helping to take an alleged drunk driver off the road in Chatham-Kent.

The Ontario Provincial Police said officers received a call from a concerned citizen about a suspected impaired driver on Highway 401 at around 3:15 p.m. on Saturday.

Officers located the vehicle travelling more than 50 km/h over the speed limit in the eastbound lanes before it exited off of the highway at Communication Road.

Police stopped the vehicle on Communication Road near Maynard Line but the driver then reversed at a low speed and crashed into two police cruisers.

No one was injured and the driver was arrested without incident.

A 42-year-old man from Newmarket is now charged with impaired driving, driving with a blood alcohol level over the legal limit, and stunt driving. He was also issued a 90-day driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle will be impounded for seven days.

The accused will answer the charges in court next month.
