Police are praising the actions of a Good Samaritan who helped take an alleged impaired driver off the road in Chatham-Kent.
The Ontario Provincial Police said an officer stopped a vehicle on Communication Road south of Highway 401 at around 10 p.m. on Saturday, after receiving a report from the Good Samaritan about a suspected impaired driver.
Believing the driver was intoxicated, the officer performed a roadside screening test, which registered a fail. The driver was then arrested and taken to police headquarters for further tests.
As a result, a 65-year-old Chatham man is now charged with impaired driving and driving with a blood alcohol level over the legal limit. He was also issued a 90-day driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle will be impounded for seven days.
