Guatemala Man Identified As Lake Erie Drowning Victim

Police have released the name of a 24-year-old man who drowned while swimming with friends in Lake Erie near Leamington.

The Ontario Provincial Police said officers were called to the shoreline in Leamington just before 2:30 p.m. on June 20, after the man failed to resurface.

Authorities said the man’s body was pulled from the water by civilian bystanders who attempted to resuscitate him.

The victim, who has now been identified as 24-year-old David Josue Mendez-Ramirez, was later pronounced dead in hospital.

No further information has been released at this time, but police officials are thanking the members of the public for their efforts in attempting to save the man’s life.
