Habitat Looking For Students

Local elementary students are being invited to help out the less fortunate.

Habitat for Humanity is holding a writing contest, open to kids across Canada in grades four through six.

Executive Director Nancy McDowell says kids are asked to write a story about what home means to them.

“It can be in the form of an essay or a poem, they can attach a video to it if they like, then those entries are reviewed and a winner in each grade level is chosen and they get to designate a $25,000 grant to the Habitat build of their choice,” says McDowell. “On top of the grand winners then three runners up will be chosen in each grade level and they will receive $5,000 to the habitat of their choice.  Evenif they don’t win every single entry means a $10 donation to us locally to help us build for a low income family in our community.”

Entries can be submitted now through February 18th, and the winners will be announced in April.
