They get our kids to and from school safely every day – today is School Bus Driver Appreciation Day.
Kent Orr, General Manager of Chatham-Kent Lambton Administrative School Services, says bus drivers are often underappreciated.
“Dealing with traffic and weather conditions and all of the things all of the motorists have to deal with,” Orr says, “they also have to think about making sure that the youngest kids, the JKs and SKs are met when they get off the bus, everybody’s safe and orderly getting on and off the bus, and that they’re keeping a level of safety and control on the bus with the children’s behaviour.”
On any given day, there are more than 310 buses on the road around the region, travelling over 47-thousand kilometres every day with close to 17-thousand students on board.
