The team of heroes from Handy Brothers Climate Care is working hard this week, helping a local family.

Ryan Goulet was diagnosed with ALS this past March. Now, the team from Handy Brothers and their suppliers are working together to renovate the Goulet family home, free of charge.

President and CEO Mitch White says there’s a lot of work to be done over the next seven days to make the house more accessible.

“There’s quite a bit involved here, we’re adding a ramp outside, we’re adding a ramp inside as well because this layout isn’t all one level. We’re converting a bedroom into a bathroom, all wheelchair accessible, we are adding some outlets for power, some lights, opening some doorways, adding a closet. It’s quite a bit of work.”

Director of Operations Eric VanPuymbroeck says the call for help was answered without hesitation.

“These guys were just immediately moved by (Ryan’s story.) They all pitched in right away. For example, Crowes Construction, he’s donating all the building supplies for the ramp and all the interior wood,” “When I told him the story, he said absolutely send me a list, and he had the truck delivered the next day.”

Ryan’s wife Marg says the last few days have been overwhelming.

“We appreciate everybody and everything they’ve done, it’s been a whirlwind,” Gouet says. “We just want to make sure our family is taken care of.”

The Goulet family is being put up in local hotels for the week, again free of charge, until the work on their home is complete.
