Chatham-Kent residents are being given then chance to have their say on the municipality’s Climate Change Action Plan.
Thanks to a $10,000 grant from Enbridge, a second community engagement process will run for the next few weeks, giving residents a chance to provide input on actions the municipality and community partners can take to address council’s priorities.
“We’re a large Municipality with low population density, and an economy centred on agriculture and manufacturing,” said Gabriel Clark, Chatham-Kent’s Manager of Growth and Sustainability. “We are developing a plan focused on creating local benefits like reducing the local impacts of climate change, enhancing nature and reducing energy related spending in our community, rather than rigidly focusing on greenhouse gas emissions.”
The plan will identify local priorities for local climate action. Participants can review ideas for actions, add their own ideas and vote on those they would like to see implemented.
“No matter where you stand on the topic of climate change, you and your family have more than likely been affected by increases in energy prices, flooding, or heatwaves, and I’m sure you have good ideas about what should be done,” said Mayor Darrin Canniff.
Residents can have their say via the climate change action plan project page at www.letstalkchatham-kent.ca and will be live until April 30.
