With significant precipitation expected on Tuesday, conservation officials are urging residents to use caution near area waterways.
The current weather forecast is calling for around 20-35 mm of rain throughout the day, which could cause ponding, areas of standing water, and localized flooding, according to the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority.
Conservation officials said the rain is expected to cause smaller watercourses to rise, and some could spill their banks into adjacent low-lying areas. While the Thames River water levels are also expected to rise, the LTVCA said flooding is not likely.
Local residents are encouraged to avoid the river, ditches, and streams, as the combination of slippery banks and fast-moving cold water can be dangerous.
Water levels are expected to remain elevated for the rest of the week.
