Helping Hand for Camp Vincent

A $10,000 is giving a big helping hand to Camp Vincent.

With no kids at the non-profit camp near Bothwell last year or this coming summer because of the pandemic, money has been extremely tight.

Spokesperson Rebecca Reimer says they’ve been fundraising for months and have managed to collect $50,000 towards their goal of $100,000. That includes a recent $10,000 donation from the Iron Workers 700.

“Jason there heard about the need and was like, if it’s for kids we are there,” Reimer says. “So we had Jason come out last week and take a look at the camp and the different needs that needed to be addressed. That was really cool because he got to see where the money is going.”

One of the biggest needs is fixing up the nurses station.

“It has not been touched since the camp was started 50 years ago,” Reimer explains. “The entire bathroom needs to be redone, they need a bathtub, they need the nurses station to be refilled with the bandages, the ice packs, that kind of thing.”

A number of other projects are also on the to-do list, including electrical work and revamping the basketball court and soccer field.

Organizers are still looking for more donations, including a plea to trades people to donate their time and skill to help fix the place up.

Anyone who would like to help can contact Reimer or Jamie Knight through the Camp Vincent Facebook page or the camp’s website.
