Helping Wheatley Residents Plan for Future Emergencies

Some Wheatley residents will be getting a knock on their doors, a call, or an email from local officials to discuss the recent explosion.

Over the next few days Chatham-Kent Fire and emergency Services will be reaching out to residents to talk about what happened and answer any questions they might have.

They will also help residents come up with an emergency plan and registry in case of further evacuations.

“Residents are being advised to have in place a family emergency plan and put together an emergency kit,” Fire Chief Chris Case says. “As we have advised, work is still ongoing to find and manage the source of the gas so we can’t say for sure that further evacuations won’t be necessary, community safety remains our priority, so please be prepared.”

That includes an emergency kit containing items like medications, cash, and important papers residents can grab and go if need be, as well as a plan for any pets.
