A plan to extend high-speed internet access to small and rural communities in Southwestern Ontario is getting a shot in the arm.
Both the federal and provincial governments are injecting 90-million dollars into the Southwestern Integrated Fibre Technology– or SWIFT – Network.
The program is expected to benefit more than three million people in 350 communities over the next five years.
However, the fund is geared towards communities with a population of 100,000 or less, which means Chatham-Kent doesn’t qualify.
