An annual holiday event in support of those in need is celebrating a record-breaking year after two decades in the community.

The 20th annual Holiday Jam For Hunger was held at Sons of Kent Brewing Company on December 28, supporting Chatham Outreach for Hunger and Hope House – Mental Health Network of Chatham-Kent.

The live music event, which featured 17 local musicians in three bands, managed to raise over $4,000, its highest fundraising total since the Holiday Jam For Hunger was first held in 2004.

“I could not be happier with the results,” said organizer and local musician Alysson Storey in a news release. “When one in five families [is] facing serious food insecurity in Chatham-Kent, to see the community come out so strongly to support our efforts to help, it means a lot. And to raise the most money yet, in just a few short hours, is incredibly heartwarming. And this will help a lot of people.”

Since its inception, the annual event has raised nearly $40,000 for local community organizations.
