A suspect wanted in connection with a violent home invasion in Windsor has been arrested following a standoff in Wallaceburg.
An arrest warrant was issued for 33-year-old Kyle Heywood late last month after four armed men entered a home on Lauzon Road in Windsor on December 28, 2024, where they assaulted a resident and stole personal items before fleeing the scene.
On Tuesday, the OPP Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement Squad learned that Heywood was hiding in a recreational vehicle in Wallaceburg on Old Glass Road and was allegedly in possession of a sawed-off shotgun.
Officers responded to the area at around 10:30 a.m. and made several unsuccessful attempts to communicate with the suspect. The Chatham-Kent Police Service Critical Incident Response Team and canine unit were then called to the scene and the 33-year-old was arrested without incident.
Heywood was later transferred to the custody of the Windsor Police Service and he is now charged with robbery, assault with a weapon, and breach of probation.
The other three suspects have also since been arrested in connection to the home invasion and robbery.
