Homeless Enumeration in CK

Following an advisory from the provincial government, the municipality is set to conduct a head count of people experiencing homelessness in Chatham-Kent.

In March of 2020 the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing advised Service Managers and Sector organizations they wanted a By-name list of the homeless in 2021.

Chatham-Kent Employment and Social Services will team up with partners Hope Haven, Rock Missions, the Women’s Centre, and Ska:na Family Learning Centre for the enumeration on October 19th.

Since the beginning of the Pandemic CKESS has assisted 365 households secure long term housing. Right now, CK’s BNL is reporting 128 individuals are homeless, and in the last year over 500 unique households reported being homeless for at least one night.

The Point-in-Time or PIT count is a look at the number of homeless people, whether sheltered or non-sheltered.

This will not only provide an accurate number to all bodies, but also help connect the homeless individuals with the services that are available.
