Members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service were among thousands of emergency personnel who gathered in Barrie to honour a fallen OPP Constable.
28-year-old Greg Pierzchala was shot and killed in the line of duty near Hamilton last week, and was remembered as a humble person who died a hero.
Pierzchala, a former constable at the provincial legislature and member of the Armed Forces, had just passed his 10-month probation period with Haldimand OPP when he was shot.
Two people have been charged with first degree murder in his death.
Along with family members and colleagues, various dignitaries spoke at yesterday’s service, including Premier Doug Ford and Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell.
