While many of us will be celebrating Mother’s Day this weekend, it will be a bittersweet occasion for others.
Wallaceburg’s Meg Foster, who lost her son at 22 weeks gestation this past March, wants to raise awareness about mothers who have lost a child.
“I feel often times these moms go unrecognized, I want these specific mothers ot know they’re not alone,” Foster says. “I hope the community can reach out to these moms and say “Happy Mother’s Day” or do something nice for them, whether it be buy a tea from Tim Hortons or buy them flowers.”
Foster says Mother’s Day can be extremely hard for those who suffer from infertility, pregnancy loss, or infant loss, but recognizing that loss can help to ease the pain.
Figures show one in four women have suffered a miscarriage at some point in their lives.
Foster also runs her own photography business, and has been collecting photos of women for a series entitled “Rainbow Moms” honouring those who have lost a child or are struggling with infertility.
