A number of firefighters, paramedics and a civilian have been recognized for their life saving efforts during an automobile crash on McNaughton Line in May of 2022.
A vehicle left the roadway, rolled several times and ejected both occupants. As the vehicle came to a resting position, it ignited. A 19-year old male died, while a 19-year old female had life-threatening injuries.
Kaitlin Remsik, who survived the collision, was on hand to thank those involved who helped.
In a message she wrote that was read by her mother, she said without the actions of those who helped she feels that she wouldn’t be alive today.
Jeremy Van Kesteren, who lived near the crash scene, heard the crash and saw a vehicle down the road in flames. He called 911 and relayed information and rushed forward and stayed with the crash victims and comforted them until first responders could get there.
Van Kesteren along with local fire fighters and EMS staff, were honoured at Monday night’s council meeting.
Remsik said she is grateful for everything Van Kesteren did on the day of the collision.
